Tour overview:

Experience 6 days tour and itinerary in Morocco from Fes with a Berber guide, traveling from Fes to Marrakech. This tour offers a wealth of experiences, beginning with a comfortable arrival. We’ll greet you at Fes-Saiss Airport and ensure a smooth transfer to your riad in Fes El Bali.

Your exploration begins in Fes, where we’ll guide you through significant sites like the Chaouara tannery, Al Karaouien University, the golden gates of the Royal Palace, and the Marinid Tombs.

On the third day, our journey takes us southeast from Fes. We’ll stop at Ifrane to see the Atlas lion statue and venture into the Azrou forest to observe Barbary apes. You’ll then immerse yourself in Berber culture through a visit, a camel trek across the desert dunes, and an overnight stay in traditional tents.

Continuing our adventure, we’ll explore the stunning Todgha and Dades Gorges, spending a night in Dades, perfectly situated between the desert and Marrakech. The final day features visits to the Valley of Roses, the Ouarzazate atlas studios, and the captivating Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou. Finally, our tour concludes upon arrival in Marrakech, after crossing the Tizi Ntichka pass through the Atlas Mountains. A detailed itinerary is available below for your review.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival to Fes :
Upon your arrival at Fes-Saiss International Airport, we’ll collect you and take you to Fes El Bali to settle into your traditional Riad. If your flight lands early enough, we might even have time for a stroll in Boujloud.
Day 2: Fes guided tour:
Absolutely! Fes is definitely worth exploring, offering a rich tapestry of sights and activities. Our exploration will begin with the impressive Royal Palace, notable for its seven golden gates, although entry inside isn’t permitted. We’ll then walk through El Mellah, the former Jewish quarter, with its distinct architectural style. Following this, we’ll experience the traditional craft of leather making at the Chouara Tannery, one of Fes’s three tanneries. Later, we’ll visit the Marinid Tombs, which offer breathtaking panoramic views of the city. Our walking tour of the ancient Medina will commence at the iconic blue gate, Bab Boujloud. Within the labyrinthine alleys, you’ll discover the historic Al Karaouine Mosque and University, considered the oldest existing educational institution. We’ll also visit the Al Bou Inania Madrasa, a beautiful Quranic school. Beyond the main attractions, Fes offers opportunities for deeper cultural immersion. After a day of sightseeing, indulging in a traditional Moroccan Hammam (sauna) is highly recommended for relaxation, with massage services available for both men and women.
Day 3: Fes to Merzouga, the Sahara desert:
Today involves a scenic 7-hour drive southeast from Fes towards Merzouga and your desert adventure. Our first stop will be in Ifrane, often called “Little Switzerland,” where we’ll see the statue commemorating the extinct Atlas lion. Continuing our journey, we’ll enter the Azrou forest, home to the Barbary macaque monkeys. As we traverse the High and Middle Atlas Mountains, our first major town will be Errachidia. Here, we’ll pause briefly to appreciate the view of the Hassan Addakhil Dam. We’ll then drive through Errachidia’s center, making our way to the Ziz Valley. A stop at the viewpoint of Ait Chaker will offer a stunning panorama. Afterwards, we’ll pass through Erfoud and several smaller villages before reaching Erg Chebbi. Here, we’ll stop for an initial view of the impressive sand dunes, giving you a first taste of the desert landscape. Finally, we’ll arrive in Merzouga, where our team will greet you with traditional Berber tea and assist you with checking into your accommodation. Your camel ride and overnight camping in Berber tents are scheduled for the following day, as we’ll first introduce you to the nomadic way of life with a visit to a local nomad family.
Day 4: Merzouga desert tour:
To truly immerse you in the heart of Morocco, we’ve tailored this 6-day Fes itinerary to include camping and camel trekking in the magnificent Erg Chebbi dunes. Your exploration of the Merzouga area will begin with a guided tour, introducing you to the Gnaoua people and a unique car museum. We’ll then take you to visit authentic Berber nomads, who live in traditional tents and move with their herds in search of favorable conditions. Our journey will also include a visit to Srij Lake, a watering spot for local camels, and the small oasis of Hassi Labied, which thrives near the dunes thanks to their underground water source. Depending on our timing, you might also have the exciting option of renting ATVs for some thrilling dune riding. As the afternoon approaches its golden hour, we’ll embark on a memorable two-hour camel ride across the captivating Erg Chebbi sand dunes. This will lead us to one of our comfortable Berber tents, where you’ll experience the magic of nomadic life with a touch of luxury. After a delicious dinner, our team will create a lively atmosphere with a campfire and traditional drum music. Situated close to the dunes, the camp offers you the perfect opportunity to climb to the top and marvel at the breathtaking starry night sky, including the stunning Milky Way.
Day 5: Merzouga to Dades:
On the fifth day of your 6-day Moroccan adventure, we’ll journey to the impressive Todgha and Dades Gorges. Returning from the desert camp to Merzouga, you can choose between a leisurely camel ride or a quicker 4×4 transfer. As we depart Merzouga, we’ll pass through Erfoud once more, where we can make a stop at the fascinating fossils museum and the local date souk if you’d like to purchase some of these sweet treats. Heading west, our first point of interest will be an ancient irrigation system featuring numerous wells. Next, we’ll visit a Berber clothing cooperative, where you’ll have the fun opportunity to try on traditional attire for memorable photos, free of charge. We’ll then pause for lunch before arriving at the majestic Todgha Gorges. Here, you’ll have around 40 minutes to wander and explore the towering canyon walls. Before checking you into your hotel nestled within the Dades Gorges, we’ll also visit the intriguing “monkey fingers” rock formations and the winding roads of Tissdrine. Your overnight stay will be in a hotel situated in the heart of the Dades Gorges, within the stunning Atlas Mountains, along the Dades River.
Day 6: Dades to Marrakech across Ait Benhaddou:
On the final day of our adventure, we’ll journey from the Dades region towards Ait Benhaddou and Marrakech. Our first possible stop is the Valley of Roses, where you can explore a cooperative producing various rose-based products if you wish. We’ll then travel through Skoura to Ouarzazate, where we’ll visit one of the city’s fascinating film studios. Next, we’ll drive to the stunning Ait Benhaddou. This small, ancient village is sure to impress, and we’ll take a walk to its highest point for panoramic views (as you can see in the picture above). Our route to Marrakech will take us over the Tizi Ntichka pass, the quickest way to reach the city from Ouarzazate. We’ll make two stops along this scenic mountain road: one at an elevation of 2260 meters for breathtaking vistas, and another at a cooperative specializing in argan oil. Finally, we’ll arrive in Marrakech in the afternoon, bringing our 6-day tour from Fes to a close.
