Day 3: Day Trip to Ouzoud Waterfalls

After breakfast, your private driver will take you on a day trip to the Ouzoud Waterfalls, one of Morocco’s most beautiful natural sites. The waterfalls drop over 100 meters and are surrounded by green valleys and olive groves. You can walk down to the base of the falls, take photos, and sometimes see wild Barbary monkeys nearby. Return to Marrakech in the afternoon.

Day 4: Marrakech – High Atlas Mountains – Ait Benhaddou – Dades Valley

Your journey begins early as your private driver takes you across the High Atlas Mountains through the Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260 m). Stop at Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, known for its earthen architecture and film appearances in movies like Gladiator and Lawrence of Arabia. Continue through Ouarzazate, the ‘Hollywood of Africa,’ and the Rose Valley, before arriving in the Dades Valley, famous for its dramatic gorges and mountain views.

Day 5: Dades – Todra Gorges – Erfoud – Merzouga Desert

After breakfast, travel toward the Sahara. You’ll stop at the Todra Gorges, a natural wonder with tall red cliffs carved by a river over centuries. Day 6: Merzouga Desert Tour

Spend a relaxing day exploring the Merzouga Desert region by car. You can visit Khamlia, a small village known for its African Gnawa music, and Rissani, an ancient market town and birthplace of Morocco’s royal family. There are also fossil areas, nomadic families, and desert oases to visit nearby.

    Day 7: Merzouga – Ziz Valley – Midelt – Ifrane – Fes

    FAQ
    12-Day Morocco Tour

What is the difference between a private driver and a tour guide?

A private driver is responsible for your transportation, comfort, and logistics, getting you safely from one location to another. They can provide general information and recommendations. An official local guide is licensed to accompany you inside monuments and museums, providing detailed historical and cultural context. For a deeper understanding in cities like Fes and Marrakech, we can arrange a local guide for a few hours at an additional cost.

How much free time and flexibility is there on this tour?

This itinerary is designed with significant flexibility. The driving routes and overnight stops are fixed, but your time in each location is yours to control. You can choose which sites to visit, how long to spend there, and where to eat. Your driver is there to facilitate your plans, not to rush you through a rigid schedule.

What is the recommended dress code for visiting mosques and religious sites?

When visiting mosques and other religious sites, modest dress is required for both men and women. This typically means covering shoulders, chest, and knees. While the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca is more lenient with tourists, it still maintains a dress code. Carrying a scarf is a good idea for women. Your driver can provide specific guidance before each visit.

Having our own car and driver let us follow our curiosity, whether that meant spending an extra hour in a café in Chefchaouen or stopping to take pictures of the stunning mountain passes. The route was perfectly planned to show us the amazing diversity of the country.

We loved having the framework of the trip taken care of—the driving and hotels were seamless—but we never felt herded around. Our driver was fantastic, offering suggestions but never imposing. The day trips from Marrakech to the waterfalls and the coast were the perfect way to break up the city stay.
