Our 3-day journey from Marrakech to Fes via the Merzouga desert starts in Marrakech with visits to Ait Benhaddou and Ouarzazate. We then travel through Skoura to reach Boumalne Dades, explore its gorges, and stay overnight in a local hotel.

Day two begins with breakfast before we drive to Tinghir and visit the spectacular Todgha Gorges. We’ll then pass through Melaab for a chance to try Berber clothing, continuing through Berber villages and Erfoud to arrive in Merzouga for your camel ride and a night at a desert camp. In Merzouga, sandboarding at sunset is highly recommended. Enjoy traditional Berber music and dance around a campfire after dinner.

The final day includes a sunrise viewing and breakfast before we travel through Errachidia to see its large dam. We’ll then visit Ifrane, “Little Switzerland,” known for its cleanliness, before continuing to Fes, the end point of our 3-day tour.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Marrakech to Boumalne Dades via Ait Ben Haddou:

Our 3-day desert tour from Marrakech to Fes kicks off in the morning with a pickup by your experienced driver/guide. We’ll begin by journeying through the High Atlas Mountains, with a photo stop at the Tizi N Tichka pass (2260m) to admire the stunning mountain and village views. We’ll also visit an Argan oil cooperative to see how Argan oil is used in cosmetics and even sample food prepared with it. Continuing our route via Telouet, a town known for its Kasbahs (with several photo opportunities), we’ll arrive at Ait Ben Haddou. You can enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before or after a guided tour of the Kasbah, where your local guide will share its history as you explore. Next, we’ll reach Ouarzazate, famous for its large film studios (an optional visit). Our day concludes as we travel to Boumalne Dades via Skoura and the Rose Valley (Kalaat Megouna), where you’ll have the chance to purchase rosewater cosmetics before arriving for an overnight stay in a local hotel or Riad.

Day 2: Boumalne Dades to Merzouga via Tinghir:

Following an early start and a delicious breakfast, the second day of your 3-day Marrakech to Fes and Merzouga adventure takes us to the magnificent Tinghir and the Todra canyons. We’ll depart the panoramic Dades Gorges and arrive in Tinghir to marvel at the extensive Todgha Valley and its palm trees, stopping for photos before reaching the impressive canyons. The Todra canyons offer a refreshing ambiance and lovely views, popular for picnics and climbing. We’ll take some time to explore before experiencing Berber dress at a local store. Our journey then continues through Erfoud, the city famous for fossils (a 40-minute drive), leading us to the Sahara desert. Upon arrival, you’ll be welcomed with tea and have a chance to get ready for your camel trek through the stunning Erg Chebbi landscapes. As the sun sets, try sandboarding at the camp for a memorable experience. The evening concludes with a Berber music and dance performance after dinner.

Day 3: Merzouga desert to Fes via Erfoud and Ifrane:

To make the most of your final day, an early wake-up is encouraged to experience the spectacular sunrise from a sand dune (staff will assist). Breakfast will be at the camp or hotel. Our 3-day Marrakech to Fes tour via Merzouga concludes with a series of interesting destinations. We’ll first drive through Erfoud, possibly stopping to see fossil processing. Next is the Hassan Addakhil Dam in Errachidia, the region’s largest water source. After a photo stop, we’ll travel the Tizi N Tlghamt road to Midelt, the “apple capital” (look for the giant apple). Continuing through the Middle Atlas, we’ll reach Ifrane, “Little Switzerland,” renowned for its cleanliness. We’ll visit Ifrane and its gardens before the final leg to Fes, where you’ll be dropped off at your accommodation or the airport in the evening.
